Martha Parra, a Cultural Care au pair in New York City, sent us this photo of her host kids, Blaise and Zane (along with one of their friends). She says, “I’ve been with my host family for two weeks and it has been great! The experience is awesome, but I thought my hosts kids were watching too much TV. As I was wondering what other activity could replace it, they heard a song on the radio one day and started singing. So, we’ve replaced TV with music. How cool!”
Au pairs: what do you do instead of watching TV with your host children? We want to know! Submit an answer now.

300 au pairs invaded downtown Chicago last Saturday, September 20th for the 2nd Annual Chicago-Area Cultural Care Au Pair Scavenger Hunt. A sea of au pairs in blue t-shirts searched for over 100 items and in the meantime got a crash course in Chicago politics, history, culture and sports.

Learn the winning team’s strategy, what superhero powers au pairs wished they had during the challenge and why au pairs really, really, really love Chicago!

Thank you to Local Childcare Coordinator Karen Relstab for submitting this video.

Cultural Care Au Pair host families, au pairs, Local Childcare Coordinators (LCCs) and staff will gather in one of Beantown’s most beautiful parks–and home to Cultural Care headquarters–this Saturday to enjoy an old fashioned carnival with a cultural twist! All families are welcome to join us for the day’s activities: a moonbounce, games, facepainting, cultural crafts and more. There’ll be plenty of popcorn and cotton candy to go around, too.

When: Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 10:00am to 1:00pm
Where: North Point Park & Cultural Care Au Pair One Education Street, Cambridge, MA

North Point Park is one of the Big Dig’s most beautiful success stories. It’s right across from the Science Museum and features scenic views of Boston and the Charles River and a wonderful playground. Parking is FREE in our on-site garage. Bill Clinton: a surprise visitor at a NY au pair meeting

by Stephanie Rueter

Cultural Care au pairs at a Chappaqua, New York Starbucks were enjoying their grande, extra whip, no foam, double-shot lattes Monday night when they spied a special celeb: Bill Clinton! Local Coordinator Ellen Sweeney wrote in an email to us, “We ran after him like a bunch of groupies. Too funny!”

Of course all the au pairs were snapping with the former pres, and it’s a good thing. Laura Verstige, Cultural Care au pair from Germany admitted, “My parents didn’t believe me until they saw the photo!”

It’s apparent U.S. presidents are as popular to pose with as Hollywood stars - at least for German au pairs Anna Berdelsmann and Tina Kellner.

Laura Verstege, another au pair from Germany sent this to her parents to prove she had actually met the former president!

New Hampshire LCC Joyce Johnson organized a trip to the upper coast of Maine last week with her au pair group. Although the weather was wet, her au pairs from Germany, Czech Republic, Moldova and Austria stuck to their plan to eat lots of lobster and swim in the frigid ocean. What fun!

Our new blog: "The Buzz"

by Stephanie Rueter

AVA APWelcome to Cultural Care Au Pair’s new blog. We’re calling it “The Buzz,” because we want to let our host parents, au pairs and everyone else who’s interested know what’s going on in the world of Cultural Care Au Pair!

Right now, the big news is that we’ve got hundreds of au pairs ready to travel to the U.S. as early as mid-October. There are 100+ profiles up on our website, so take a look if you’re interested. One host mom let us know she was interested in a Polish candidate and was matched and “finaled” two days later!
